THE RECORD PRODUCERS: ROY WOOD
BBC Radio Two
Monday, April 13th, 2009
6:00pm to 7:00pm (UK time)
As part of BBC Radio Two's Record Producers series, Richard Allinson and Steve Levine look at the work of a man who has achieved the rare feat of having Top Ten singles with three different groups and as a solo artist, yet remains somewhat under-valued in his contribution to British pop music - Roy Wood. This programme concentrates on his work during this period, but also features some of his productions for other artists, such as the Annie in Wonderland album by Renaissance singer Annie Haslam.
LISTEN AGAIN (this link will be good through the 19th)
UPDATE: An extended BBC 6 Music 'producer's cut' will air Saturday, 18 April, at 9:00pm (UK time). This 90-minute extended version includes an analysis of the multi-track of 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday', and will be followed by a half hour of Roy Wood music.

THE VERY BEST OF THE MOVE
(SALVOCD015)
Release date: 2 March 2009
No group sums up both the gaudy thrills and the creative tensions inherent in late '60s pop more magnificently than The Move. They were radio-friendly rock 'n' rollers with progressive ambition; sharp suited ruffians who lost their heads to flower power and who had a revolving door policy towards bassists and lead singers that had even managers and agents confused, let alone the millions who gawped with eye-popping delight each time the band appeared on Top Of The Pops.
The Move's career comprised a remarkable seven-year run of near-perfect chart classics written by the remarkable Roy Wood (who was later joined by another major song writing talent, Jeff Lynne) as well as some of the most diverse work undertaken by a successful pop act from that or any other era. This particular collection (the fifth release in the Salvo/Fly programme of definitive Move reissues), takes in all the big hitters, from 'Night Of Fear' in 1966, which anticipated the psychedelia of the following year, via elusive B-sides, live cuts and choice album tracks to the rousing rock 'n' roll revivalism of 'California Man' in 1972.
The 20-page booklet features rare, recently unearthed photos and comprehensive and entertaining band history penned by MOJO scribe Mark Paytress, making this without doubt the definitive Move 'Best Of' package to date; something that is guaranteed to appeal to both the band's existing fans and those with a more general interest in the most exciting and innovative groups of the era.
* The ultimate single disc retrospective of one of the UK’s most widely respected and successful rock/pop bands of the late '60s / early '70s
* Compiled with the assistance of original band members Bev Bevan and Trevor Burton.
* Remastered from original master tapes for the best ever sound quality
* Ten major UK hits, seven top ten smashes including the timeless UK Number One 'Blackberry Way', which celebrates its 40th anniversary as a chart topper in February 2009
* Also includes their superb, live version of 'Piece Of My Heart' recently used on the hit US TV series, 'Nip/Tuck'
* 20-page booklet containing rare photographs and a detailed essay by respected journalist and author Mark Paytress
